Comfortably the best of the tree-hugging Earthy mini-chain, this rustic-style eatery and deli has strong sustainable, seasonal and local credentials that chime with its motto – ‘forage, nourish,
share’. The regularly changing menu is an eclectic mixed bag with plenty of veggie options, although the repertoire also takes in the likes of steamed Scottish mussels in spicy tomato and chorizo
sauce or brined free-range chicken breast with lemon, za’atar, fine beans and citrus yoghurt. During the day, Earthy’s café offerings also bring in a regular stream of well-to-do mums and their
little darlings. Handily placed for this part of Edinburgh, the venue even has a free car park; the only downsides seem to be slow service and somewhat indifferent staff. There’s a café on
Causewayside and a further shop in Portobello by the sea.
