Delrio’s is something of a York institution and has been doling out decent Italian fare for over two decades. Duck into its innocuous entrance on the corner of Micklegate, make your way down the
narrow staircase lined with Italian ‘tourist board’ posters, and enter the cosy, candlelit dining area with its flags pinned to the ceiling, paintings of the bucolic home country, and empty wine
bottles serving as candle holders. The atmosphere is a big selling point and the food is generally good, although the kitchen can be inconsistent – so stay with the reliable pizzas and pasta dishes
such as seafood linguine or tagliatelle carbonara. A word of caution: when booking a table be sure to ask for a seat in the main dining area – the bar feels like a bit of an afterthought.
