The corporate InterContinental Park Lane isn’t the most obvious wrapper for Cookbook Café’s country-kitchen looks, but shelves of bestsellers and a rough-hewn wooden cart loaded with Le Creuset pots and pans create an irresistible bolthole for no-holds-barred grazing. Weekend brunch is a big draw, when artisan cheeses, cured meats, sushi, DIY salads and suchlike are the major inducements. “Wow, what a spread!” exclaimed one reader, who also made the most of “unlimited Bellinis”. Otherwise, expect classic eggy breakfasts, generous lunchtime dishes and an entire bar filled with desserts. There are upbeat dinners, too – think grilled Blythburgh pork cutlet with grain mustard and spinach or roast sea bass on fried artichokes and crab. Live cooking stations, a detoxing juice menu and “brilliant value” add to the energetic vibe, although the place can seem “morgue-like” at off-peak times.
