Set in a wedge-shaped Victorian mini-me of Manhattan’s Flatiron Building, Charterhouse is a fall-back option for after-works drinks and shindigs – as well as special dos in the private room upstairs. Order wine from £14.50 and well-made cocktails at the lower end of central London’s financial scale. The list covers the usual suspects – Mai Tai, Bramble, Mojito et al – but also offers some more interesting stuff, such as Salted Negroni, Lavender Margarita and an Old Fashioned made with Talisker whisky and tobacco bitters. Live jazz, DJ sets and weekly stand-up comedy are popular, as is a menu of mainstream, crowd-pleasing grub including chilli dogs, nachos, jerk chicken, burgers, ribs and meze platters. Charterhouse’s late licence at the weekends (4am) is worth remembering if you’re considering shaking your stuff at neighbourhood mega-club, Fabric.
