Square Meal Review of Cecil's ?

In a riverside repository that was once used for storing teas shipped from the colonies, discover the twilight world of the mysterious Cecil – the warehouse’s fictional owner. His louche liquor lounge is a candlelit take on a Hong Kong harbour clip-joint, circa The World of Suzie Wong. A dress code of vintage finery is de rigueur on Saturday nights (channelling Jack Nicholson and Faye Dunaway in Chinatown should cut it) for the Oolong Weekend Blend cocktail party with live jazz (advance booking advised). Spiffing Eurasian drinks include Yuzu Shu Fizz (a Portobello Road gin sour), New York of the West (Maker’s Mark whiskey, umeshu and Mandarin Napoleon), and Paris of the East (a Belenkaya vodka, Tio Pepe and ‘house plonk’ fruity cooler). House wine is decently priced at £19, but the suited, post-work crowd who come for the midweek comedy nights look rather incongruous amid such studiedly cool surrounds.
