Rustic Italian is the theme at Bibo – a new eatery devised by busy restaurateur Rebecca Mascarenhas (Sonny's, Kitchen W8 etc) and
Chris Beverley (one-time chef at Theo Randall at the InterContinental Hotel). The long,
painted-brick dining room sets an unfussy tone with its bentwood chairs and plain wooden tables, allowing the food to steal the limelight. Our hearty, ham-based pasta and chickpea soup was
comforting in the extreme, while slow-cooked, sage-flavoured pork belly was neatly offset by braised fennel and a sweet/sharp hit from datterini tomatoes. Fish dishes are equally self-assured –
whole roast plaice with lentils, spinach, anchovy, capers and lemon needs a steady chef to get it right. There’s also plenty of attention to detail – from big napkins and carafes of free water to
the well-researched, all-Italian wine list. In short, a celebration of generous, earthy goodness for Putney locals.
Upper Richmond Road is as uninspiring a high-street as most in London. But nestled in the bosom of a Nando’s, Pizza Express and Dominos that flank either side, Bibo and its interiors have a transportational quality that plucks you out of SW15 and plants you straight into a Soho dining-hotspot. It looks great - airy, high-ceilinged, white-washed exposed brick, dark wood, leather banquettes, a mezzanine at the rear, and an impressive bar upon entry. Once you’re in, you’ll be in no hurry to leave...

Bibo is the latest venture by Rebecca Mascarenhas, a restaurateur known for the Michelin Starred Kitchen W8 and the acclaimed Sonny’s Kitchen in Barnes, both of which are collaborations with Philip Howard of The Square. The wine list is Italian as well and includes a list of approximately 60 bins covering regional Italy.Located in Putney, Bibo goes about bringing a sense of warmth to its interior. The long painted...

It's been a few years now since I was a Putney local. Four years to be exact. I used to live in the idyllic village of Barnes, but its slightly out of the way location and reputation for baby making got the better of me. There's only so many pushchairs and parent toddler evenings I can cope with and fighting my way around the lovely farmers market without tripping over a small child was enough. Living in Barnes I found myself in and around nearby Putney quite alot and over the years the foodie scene in Putney has changed significantly. Before there was nothing but fast food and the occasional nice gastro pub. But...

Bibo is a modern Italian restaurant & bar right by East Putney tube station. I’d first read about it in March when it was newly opened and thought it sounded pretty nice, and then when it was recommended to me by a chef at another restaurant, high hopes ensued. It was relatively busy on a mid-week evening, with a nice low key buzz in the room, without being noisy. The interior is simple – lighting by way of hand blown glass lamps and solid oak tables positioned with a good amount of distance between each. There’s also an outdoor (roadside) terrace seating area. Personally, I found the room to be a little...
