Ariana II

Good eateries are rare on Kilburn’s ancient High Road, so enticed by good reports, we ventured into this delightful, family-run Afghan restaurant, clutching our bottles of wine (they have no licence). We were easily seduced by the aubergine Baudinjan Buranee, which was nicely complemented by the Spinach Samosas and Salad Olivieh, our choices for the 3-starter Special Maza combo. Kebabs comprise generous portions of tenderly marinated, chargrilled pieces of chicken and lamb, while the pumpkin curry was richly aromatic and golden. Everything comes with the most gorgeously buttery saffron rice (brown basmati, which makes for a pleasing change) and salad – although like most Middle-Eastern lettuce-tomato-cucumber side salads, this was something of an afterthought. Sadly we didn’t have space for dessert and our lovely server, Samira, had to wrap our leftovers for us to take away – for a delicious light lunch the day after. The best news is that if you’re feeling lazy, Ariana II does deliveries.

really friendly service at this unlikely looking gem on kilburn high road. having not tried Afghan food before I was pleasantly surprised A selection of delicious veggie starters were complimented by some really zingy green chilli sauce My husband secured a rather nice bottle of red wine from the off licence next door and we tucked into some perfectly grilled lamb dishes served with salad and aromatic rice bejewelled with pistachios, sultanas and slithers of roasted red peppers – divine. We even tried the home made puddings mostly sweetend condensed milk based with pistachios and almonds – delicious (unless you have a nut allergy) though I get the feeling they would go out of their way to make something special for you if you do suffer from an allergy The staff were very knowledgeable and were very proud to show us the banqueting room downstairs The loos were clean. the food was fabulous, really good selection on the menu and the bill for four came to £70 including tip What's not to like? Great food and service. This restaurant proves that you don't have to pay a fortune for good tasty food. they do not hold a license to sell alchohol so you can bring your own, even better. Staff are friendly and helpful too, they also deliver.
