Square Meal Review of Angler ?

Netting a Michelin star less than a year after its 2012 launch, Angler serves superlative fish from its comfortable perch on South Place Hotel’s seventh floor. The rectangular room is a lesson in airy elegance: light colours, cosseting furnishings and expansive mirrored artworks setting a fresh, relaxed tone. Outside, the terrace is equipped with its own grill. Marco Pierre White alumnus Tony Fleming ensures that the provenence of the ingredients takes centre stage, from carpaccio of octopus with squid and mango salad to a delectably autumnal monkfish tail with braised oxtail, butternut squash and sautéed ceps. Dishes are presented with precise flair and, though adventurous flavour combinations have inconsistent results, the best deliver show-stopping mouthfuls. The brace of meat options and vegetarian alternatives are more than afterthoughts, and the international wine list has a heavy French accent including a variety by the glass. We love taking the bait here.

    Nomface :: Angler, London

    Angler was a surprise recipient of a Michelin Star last September, a seafood restaurant quietly going about its business. It is based on the top floor of the South Place Hotel in Moorgate and attracts the local City workers judging from the clientele during our visit. The dining area is long and narrow and it is a shame that the window side currently overlooks a building site across the road so there is not much of a view. Anyway back to the purpose of this post and the blog, being the food. We were presented with a cheese nibble as we browsed the menus which reminded me of mini cheddars...

  1. South place hotel is by no means new and it’s been on my radar for some time. Having recently received a Michelin star, one of only two (I believe) in the D&D stable of restaurants, and upon hearing a positive experience from a friend, I decided it was time to give this place a go for a grown up meal with friends. And boy was it a good call.

    Though it’s surrounded by building works and scaffolding, there’s a zen-like serenity in the air, once you reach the 7th floor of the hotel in the whizzy lift. The light and airy interiors may have something to do with this but there’s also a tone of maturity and that’s...

    SamTheFoodFan :: Angler Restaurant

    Located on the 7th floor of the South Place Hotel in the heart of the City of London, Angler restaurant was for most, the surprise winner of a Michelin star last year. I say surprise winner because it came onto the scene quietly and not many people had heard of it when the stars were being handed out. My office is quite near by and after I had been to view the hotel (gorgeous), event space (double gorgeous) and restaurant (super gorgeous!) I quickly added Angler to my bucket list and booked a table for my monthly catch up with the lovely M.
    We decided on the set menu which is really good value at £25 for 2 courses...

    vialaporte :: Angler* // The City // London

    London’s fish restaurant scene is going from strength to strength. Whether you’re looking for the sophistication of Corrigan’s or the lively atmosphere of Randall & Aubin, seafood is getting some fine treatment across the capital. And somewhere that really embodies this movement is the D&D restaurant group’s second starred restaurant, Angler.

    Set atop of the South Place Hotel, the elegant Angler dining room is long and slender, which creates a quiet atmosphere with a lovely outdoor terrace at the western end. Once you’re seated you’ll find an a la carte or tasting menu from which to choose...

    Samphire and Salsify :: Angler

    Angler is a seafood restaurant owned by the D&D group – they own a staggering 24 restaurants in London including Michelin starred Launceston Place, Coq d’Argent, Bluebird in Chelsea, Butlers Wharf Chophouse…I could go on for days.

    It’s based in the rather swanky South Place Hotel near Liverpool Street and as the restaurant recently received a Michelin star we thought we’d pop along for lunch...

  1. Angler seafood restaurant is part of the D&D Group and located on the seventh floor of the glamorous South Place Hotel. The dining room is elegant, yet unimposing with a relaxed sophistication to it, and its floor to ceiling windows and outdoor terrace provides exciting views of the city. The executive chef is Tony Fleming who previously worked with Marco Pierre White at the Criterion and the three Michelin-starred Oak Room. Tony has also cooked at Oxo Tower, The Great Eastern Hotel and at One Aldwych. Seafood has always been his specialty, and at Angler, this has translated into a British seafood menu with a contemporary...
