This atmospheric subterranean bar, formerly The Medicine Chest, has been freshened up by the owners but still offers a cocktail cure for all ailments among its list of 'elixirs'. Try the
'amaryllis' (an allegedly health-boosting mix of gin, rosewater, cucumber & blueberry syrup served in a jam jar) or a rejuvenating potion of brandy, Lillet Blanc & pressed apple juice.
Drinking on an empty stomach is against doctor's orders – so head upstairs to the dining room, where hearty plates of modern British food, such as roast venison with celeriac purée, keep drinkers
on an even keel.
