Waitresses in brightly coloured, sequinned costumes set the tone in this Chinatown newcomer, which specialises in the regional cuisine of Xinjiang Uyghur – a Muslim province in the north-western
reaches of the country. Turkic-style flatbreads and pungent lamb kebabs are its signature dishes, although ‘big plate chicken’ is the star turn – a mighty stew loaded with chunks of meat on the
bone, plus layers of starchy noodles, potatoes, chillis and tomatoes. The menu also offers a range of more generic dishes, if your fancy turns to cold sliced aubergines in a coriander dressing,
steamed dumplings or stir-fried lotus roots. For a novel experience, wash it all down with a glass of salted yak’s milk. Inside, the place has a homespun feel with wooden lattice panels, lanterns
and a tent-like ceiling. Part of the Restaurant Privilege Group (Leong’s Legends, Empress of Sichuan et al).
