Having successfully established his informal Tom’s Kitchen in Chelsea and at Somerset House, Tom Aikens has moved out east – good news for the financial fixers of Canary Wharf. White tiles,
leather, wood and lots of space make for a welcoming bar and restaurant – laid-back enough for a blueberry-pancake breakfast at 7am, and smart enough for a business dinner in the private dining
room. Prices are on the high side, but you’re paying for admirable attention to British, organic and sustainable sourcing. The menu is an entente cordiale of French brasserie staples, such as
chicken-liver parfait and endive, walnut and Roquefort salad, and enjoyably hearty Brit comfort food like braised beef cheek with root-vegetable mash and creamy sherry trifle. There are wines
helpfully listed by style, beers from Whitstable Bay, inventive house cocktails and friendly staff on hand to keep the happiness levels high.
