‘Frankly, it beats some of the French originals hands down’, trumpets one of The Wolseley’s many fans – and it’s easy to see why. This real-deal grand café now ‘epitomises London’ and it’s a
genuine icon with ‘classless accessibility for everyone’. It may be notoriously hard to book, but the sheer cosmopolitan buzz is irresistible, as the jam-packed quadruple-height room weaves its
magic with towering black pillars, marble floors and sparkling chandeliers. Whatever the hour, The Wolseley is on song – from crispy bacon rolls, croques and porridge for breakfast through to
gorgeous afternoon teas and deliciously romantic late suppers. In between, the populist menu happily accommodates caviar, chopped liver and coq au vin, salade Niçoise, wiener schnitzel and roast
beef, plus viennoiserie and some ‘deliriously good’ desserts such as Black Forest gâteau. The odd naysayer insists it’s ‘too mixed to be great’, but we’re with those readers who fell madly in love
with the place from day one.
The Wolseley is a grand establishment located right next to the iconic Ritz Hotel in London. When I first came to London, a good friend of mine who enjoy breakfast as much as I do recommended this place, after a wonderful first experience I just have to come back again...

The Wolseley is owned by Chris Corbin and Jeremy King and was famed for being the late Michael Winner’s favourite restaurant in London. Corbin and King also own The Delaunay, Brasserie Zedel and Cafe Colbert – a selection of restaurants that I simply adore and the same can now be said for The Wolseley after my visit for dinner with my parents...

The Wolseley is just over a decade old, opened by the restaurateurs behind The Ivy and Caprice (much celebrated in their time, if a little dated now). In 2003 The Wolseley opened to fanfare and hyperbole, pleasing bloggers, critics and most importantly, celebrities who swarmed to breakfast, lunch, tea and dinner there. The interior is suited to the silver-screen clientele of the noughties – vaulted ceilings, polished marble and scrubbed stone surfaces, ebony-lacquered wood and crisscross patterned floors. The place exudes old-school, art deco glamour and is fashioned around the ‘grand-cafes’ of middle Europe...

So to the issue of where I can eat with ease. I’m thinking comfort, space, service and no music. My mind wanders to somewhere I expect to find all these things and it falls on the self-styled ‘café-restaurant in the grand European tradition‘ that is The Wolseley.I probably don’t need to tell you that the name “Wolseley” derives from the fact that this was built as a car showroom in 1921, for Wolseley cars, who went bust shortly thereafter. It was taken over by Barclays Bank in 1927, but rescued and restored to the food-loving public by the present operators, Corbin and King, in 2003. And it is a...

Afternoon tea has to be one of my favourite things to do in London. The Wolseley located on the Piccadilly one of London’s most famous boulevards. The grand European building is gorgeous, as soon as you step in. The high ceilings, gold, black and cream shouted out expensive.I felt like I was in one of gossip girl episodes where Serena and Blair go to Paris, dining in exquisite places...
