Located right below the offices of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust, this compact, low-lit bar is serious about booze: drinkers come here to broaden their palates and enjoy superior tipples in
civilised surroundings. Cocktails really get the bartenders’ juices flowing and the talented guys can be persuaded to expertly mix your favourite off-list hit or something from Hide’s library of
recipe books dating back to the1800s – although signature sips such as the pleasure seeker (Cognac, Amaretto, peach bitters and rosemary tincture) are also worth a punt. Those not fond of fancy
drinks are equally well served by a thoughtful wine list supplemented with appealing bin ends, plus Meantime ale and pilsner on tap and a few well-chosen bottled beers. Sharing platters and snacks
cover the edible side of things.
One of the best-presented
lists we’ve seen, visitors to The Hide bar are greeted by an attractive hardback list clearly organised into reds, whites, fizz, rosé and cocktails. There’s also information on different serves,
alcohol levels and a clean, clear filing system. Top marks to the designer.
