Square Meal Review of The Harwood Arms ?

Now that the Michelin-starred grandstanding has died down, this gastropub from Ledbury whizz-kid Brett Graham can revert to its blueprint – here is a local boozer that encourages drinkers, runs a quiz night and just happens to serve stellar food. Three tasty ales sit on tap for those craving a post-work pint, and service is as chirpy as the setting – although most Fulham locals are lured here by the Harwood’s top-notch cooking. Punchy dishes roll along with the seasons and there’s always plenty to tempt those with inquisitive palates: our visit yielded crispy pheasant egg and ham hock with wild garlic and parsley, ahead of brill with cauliflower, brown shrimp and samphire, with a combo of rhubarb, parkin and honey to finish. House wines start at a rock-bottom £4 a glass, although bottle prices leap up to three figures.

Fine Dining Pub List Of The Year

Wines at The Harwood Arms are split up fairly traditionally by country (with Oz, NZ and South Africa collectively grouped as the ‘Tri-Nations’). With (mostly) wealthy locals and a Michelin star behind it, there’s no surprise that the wines in each section climb fairly rapidly above £50, but the list deserves credit for giving good descriptions of every single wine irrespective of price. And at 110 bins, it’s still well focused. There’s also ‘Seasonal Wine Specials’ at the front, along with 30 wines available by the glass (including half-a-dozen excellent Lustau sherries).

  1. After being so impressed with the Harwood Arms last year, we headed back to celebrate the CG's first father's day (did I mention that managing to blog in a timely fashion also goes out the window when you spend most of your day living and breathing a small person? I assume, given the vast number of mummy blogs out there, that my previous time management skills and motivation will return at some stage.)

    We weren't disappointed.

Starters were innovative and presented beautifully, from duck egg and snails to squid...

little swallow : china doll :: Harwood Arms, Fulham

I've eaten (and cooked, if I do say so myself) some damn good roasts in my time. So when I say The Harwood Arms is in my top five roast experiences of all time, you can be assured it's worth a visit. As in, make it your mission to go. Now.

Don't skip the bread to make sure you've got room for the main. It's worth it. And if you're really ambitious and are willing to donate a little bit of room to a starter, share a scotch egg with someone. Just look at that deliciously runny yellow yoke. LOOK AT IT...

  1. The Harwood Arms has been on my hit list for many, many years! Before I moved to Parsons Green I frequented their monthly quiz nights and sat, providing no help whatsoever, eating one of their legendary scotch eggs with a glass of vino hoping just one answer would spring to mind - general knowledge is not my strongest subject.

Seven of us (and a dog) popped in for Sunday lunch and we were greeted with a roaring fire and friendly faces. The pub was packed (you do have to book with C.card details a little in advance)with people enjoying what looked like fantastic Sunday roast boards and delicious wines, thankfully...
