Square Meal Review of The George ?

Although this picture-postcard pretty inn changed ownership early in 2005, the format remains pretty much the same. Alongside the fireplaces, heavy beams, exposed brickwork & mismatched polished mahogany tables runs a menu of evolved classics, notably char-grilled Scotch fillet with garlic mushrooms, roast tomatoes, onion rings & big chips, & roast rump of lamb with porcini veloute, garlic potatoes & lemon broccoli. Booking is essential, particularly in the summer, when there is an appealing alfresco courtyard.
