SquareMeal Review of The Foley

A local hostelry since the 1780s, The Foley has been re-launched by Young’s Brewery as a self-styled ‘coaching inn for the 21st century’, complete with a brand-new bar, dining room and boutique accommodation. The food has a strong seasonal British accent, moving from ‘light bites’ of smoked haddock and spring onion fishcakes or bubble ‘n’ squeak with bacon and a poached egg to chicken, ham and leek pie, game sausages and mash or pan-roasted skate wing with capers and tarragon brown butter. Also look out for daily specials such as toad-in-the-hole with Guinness onions, plus patriotic puds including plum and almond sponge with sauce anglaise. Young’s ales are on the pumps alongside other craft beers, and the extensive wine list has a goodly crop of tipples from the Old and New Worlds.
