Located in what is thought to be the country's fourth oldest inn, in the quintessentially English village of Chiddingfold, this new seafood restaurant offers notable cooking. In contrast to the
eye-catching period detail, chef Daniel Gerson puts a contemporary spin on the menu, dealing in exceptionally good flavours without ever overpowering. Scallop cannelloni, & langoustine with
spinach & cream cheese ravioli are fine examples of restrained & fresh-tasting starters. Follow with mains such as grilled tuna with herb-crusted artichoke, glazed carrots, potatoes &
tomato bearnaise sauce, or even a judiciously put together salmon with rocket & cream cheese in pastry, served with vegetable stir-fry, butternut squash puree & lemon cream sauce. The
cumulative effect is of grown-up classical cooking rather than more vibrant global flavours, but that's definitely a plus point here & is also evident in the old school desserts.
