Like its older sister the Preston Park Tavern, the Chimney House quietly goes about its business on a residential street away from the hubbub of Brighton's city centre. The low profile means that
it has evolved into a genuine local, but don't expect dartboards & live sport. This area close to Brighton station is populated by wealthy commuters, who appreciate the pub's retro mirrors,
designer lampshades & shabby-chic furniture. They also like the modern British menu, which showcase the Sussex coastline & countryside. Lunch includes a bargain two-course set menu (£12),
while the bar (& price) is raised in the evening with starters such as white onion & Parmesan soup, followed by seared bream with citrus confit potatoes & salsa verde. Lemon posset
standards out among the retro puds. The sensibly priced wine list is available by the glass & bottle, while a smart function room & excellent Sunday roasts add to the pub's appeal.
