Old geezers & suave young Docklands residents can be found mingling at The Captain Kidd, passing the time of day & discussing the price of a pint – although with Sam Smith’s affordable
brews on hand, there are no worries on that score. This Thames-side boozer is a gloriously atmospheric dive, with stone floors, wooden beams & exposed brickwork preserving the vintage feel,
plus a cobbled terrace & benches running along the river wall providing the best seats outside the house. The views are of Canary Wharf’s shimmering towers, Thames cruisers & ducks bobbing
up & down – heaven on a sunny day. The basic pub fare is as cheap as the Yorkshire ale: expect lasagne, chilli, scampi & chips, bangers or toad-in-the-hole at well under a tenner.
