Square Meal Review of The Botanist ?

The Botanist is a breath of sophisticated air for the Chelsea denizens who cram its chic spaces from morn to night. British produce is given a serious namecheck, and ‘clean' seasonal dishes such as Norfolk asparagus with a poached egg and hollandaise, confit shoulder of Herdwick lamb with glazed sweetbreads and baby turnips, or grilled native lobster with garlic and tarragon butter are as fashionably coutured as those devouring them – although the ‘classic British' knickerbocker glory may be a calorie-count too far. Off-white leather banquettes, stripped oak floors and botanical art provide a suitably swish backdrop, but service can struggle with the sheer numbers piling in throughout the day. On both sides, there are masses of attractive, expensive-looking Sloanes, and the people watching opportunities are limitless. The menu is along the same lines as their other restaurants – carefully sourced ingredients served as classic dishes, with nothing that will scare the horses too much. Service was excellent from the moment we arrived – smiley, accommodating and knowledgeable. I enjoyed a glass of prosecco while debating what to order, and nibbled on some outstanding warm mini loaves of bread...

As elegant as any casual dining establishment you’re apt to come across in upscale Chelsea and just a stone’s throw from Sloane Square Station, the Botanist is as smartly situated as London restaurants come. And with a newly introduced breakfast menu available all week, it’s now a smart place to start your day as well...
