A well-regarded mini chain with three branches dotted around the Southbank, Tas can be relied on to deliver authentic Turkish food in pleasantly rustic surrounds, with the bonus of keen prices
& affable service; the Borough branch also has a live guitarist in the evenings. You can make a meal out of the mezze selection – perhaps somon tava (deep-fried salmon skewers), kisir (bulgur
wheat salad with walnuts, hazelnuts & herbs) or mantar (mushrooms in a savoury tomato sauce with cashar cheese). For something more wholesomely substantial, try choban kavurma (gloriously
tender lamb casserole) or karisik guvech (prawns, mussels & cod in a garlic, coriander & wine sauce) with richly flavoured rice. The mighty mixed grill lures diehard carnivores, but
vegetarians are spoiled for choice too. Tas Pide (20 New Globe Walk, SE1 9DR, 020 7928 3300) also specialises in ‘pide’, a Turkish folded pizza cooked in a wood-fired oven.
