SquareMeal Review of Santini

Grand yet relaxed – as only restaurants in Belgravia can be – “high-class” Santini is the go-to haunt for old money in the neighbourhood, and with more than 30 years of trading under its belt, the old girl is still looking remarkably good for her age. The huge outside terrace is a lovely place to sit on a warm summer’s evening, although the chic, flatteringly lit interior has plenty to recommend it too. Venetian flavours dominate the high-end menu, from carpaccios and smart salads to homemade pappardelle with rich artichoke sauce or char-grilled veal chop with wild mushrooms and rosemary. Everything is executed as it should be and there’s an almost exclusively French/Italian wine list to accompany. Santini’s proudest claim to fame is that it was Frank Sinatra’s favourite restaurant in London, and we feel that he’d still approve of its “impeccable” food and service.

Santini Business Lunch
A warm welcome and relaxed setting - and still a good place to be for a client lunch.

Classy Italian
This is a high class Italian restaurant with an exclusively Italian wine list and an interesting menu. The service and food were impeccable but, as others have pointed out, this comes at a price. Not for anyone on a budget. There are surprisingly few top-end restaurants in this part of London and I'd rate Santini and The Goring as the best in the Pimlico and Victoria area.

Nothing special
We booked for 6pm on a Friday and turned up at 6pm and a girl came to the door holding up 5 fingers which presumably meant "can you wait outside in the rain for 5 minutes more" (what a joke). Some people waiting outside just walked away, we waited and were eventually let in. Service seemed like it was conducted by novices but to be fair I normally go to much higher profile restaurants with more experienced staff, so perhaps I am being a bit harsh. The food was ok but nothing to write home about.
