Situated in a former paper factory turned office space, this New York-style bar and cheery urban brasserie fizzes with atmosphere – a sociable haven, whatever the weather. Sam’s dedicated kitchen
manages to keep its customers satisfied, whether they are in for breakfast or brunch, lunch or dinner. Early birds might fancy Welsh rarebit with confit leeks and beetroot ketchup, while the full
menu takes in everything from Cajun-spiced squid with lemon mayonnaise or char-grilled leg of lamb with braised fennel and salsa verde to a properly sweet and comforting sticky toffee pudding. For
drinks, it’s Aperol spritz, chilli and ginger mule, and some ‘utterly brilliant’ wines from a well-priced list that is a study in informality and helpfulness. With live music at the weekends and a
children’s menu to boot, Sam Harrison has created a thriving hub for Chiswick folk of all ages.
The winner of the Neighbourhood Restaurant List of The Year in 2013, Sam’s showed strongly again. This list is simply laid out – just Whites, Reds, Fizz, etc – but it’s clearly done, with plenty of helpful, characterful tasting notes, a powerful by-the-glass selection, and the added focus of Wines of the Month. The judges found it hard to argue with Dom Pérignon 2003 at £139 as well… ‘Clean, minimal and spot-on for an urban bistro, there’s lots to like about this list,’ said Studio Alto’s Neil Bruce, who was on the judging panel.
The mezzanine floor is for dinners for 18 to 26 people, open Monday-Friday for lunch and dinner Sunday-Thursday. The whole restaurant and bar can also be hired for exclusive use on Sunday and Monday evenings throughout the year. The restaurant can host everything from corporate events to wedding receptions and birthday celebrations. The head chef, Ian Leckie, works closely with the guests to design a bespoke menu which can be as diverse as drinks and canapés or full 3 course dinners.
