Sheffield’s most opulent Italian, Rossi’s inhabits a grand, lofty dining room stuffed with baroque excesses, statues, sturdy columns, gilded mirrors and Sistine-esque ceiling frescoes. By contrast,
the menu promises a no-shocks trattoria line-up with traditional pasta dishes and pizzas supplementing an assortment of familiar antipasti and mains. Kick off with fritto misto, garlicky mushrooms
with pancetta and tomato sauce, eggs florentine or spare ribs before moving on to veal escalope with Marsala sauce, grilled swordfish cooked with olive oil, lime and parsley or one of the beef
dishes (filetto Rossini or bistecca Diana, perhaps). If you fancy sharing, don’t miss the special seafood casserole served with rice and toasted bread. A trendy bar dispenses premium spirits and
cocktails, and there’s regular live music too.
