Square Meal Review of Rafters ?

Opened in a leafy Sheffield suburb back in 1994, Rafters has become a fixture of the local restaurant scene, with manager Alistair Myers and chef Tom Lawson now at the helm. The upstairs dining room is tidily done out in soothing shades with comfortable upholstery, full-length curtains at the windows, thick carpets and ,of course, a beamed and raftered ceiling overhead, while the food has a noticeable Anglo-European slant. Goats’ cheese pannacotta with heritage tomatoes, basil and balsamic or cumin-spiced scallops with cauliflower and golden raisins could give way to truffled chicken breast with mushroom and tarragon tortellini or ‘beef and onions’ (fillet, shin and tongue with onion purée, onion rings and pommes Anna). For afters, sticky toffee pudding with peanut-butter ice cream and salted caramel is a firm favourite with the regulars.
