Unobtrusively situated on Liverpool’s version of Harley Street, Puschka brings some funky boho bonhomie to the city’s Georgian Quarter. Local and regional ingredients get top billing on the
seasonal menu, which happily garners ideas from home and abroad – perhaps hake with butterbean purée, fennel and leek etuvée or slow-braised venison daube with red wine, juniper and dauphinoise
potato gratin. For afters, dark chocolate truffle mousse with orange ice cream might appeal. The food is generally pretty good, but there can be long waits between courses and service is ‘sketchy’,
with staff hiking add-ons and pushing for the bill; on the plus side, early-evening set deals (three courses for £19 with a glass of house vino) are much appreciated. If wine isn’t your thing,
order one of the Merseyside beers from Cain’s or the Liverpool Brewery.
