Launched in 1964, this most traditional of French fish restaurants is still a firm favourite with an ultra-loyal brigade of Chelsea habitués who like their seafood cooked in the old style.
Evergreen patron Pietro Rosignoli welcomes back his regulars with typical Italian grace, and serves a menu that – at their insistence – seldom changes. Come here for lobster bisque, sole véronique
and smoked haddock Monte Carlo, as well as more sprightly ideas such as grilled sea bass with fennel and pine nuts (all provided by Poissonerie’s fishmonger next door). Set lunches are a fair deal,
while desserts dole out nostalgia in the shape of crêpes Suzette or oeufs à la neige. The luxurious dining room evokes the starched ceremony of days gone by, with plush upholstered chairs,
monogrammed napkins and gold-rimmed china plates – plus nautical paintings, a lobster-patterned carpet and other maritime kitsch.
