‘The most amazing restaurant in the world… without doubt’ say fans, & while we feel this might be a slight exaggeration, Oslo Court is certainly one of a kind. ‘It’s like stepping back into the
1970s’, in a good way, with charmingly retro salmon-pink decor, heavily starched linen & tuxed-up waiters wheeling around dessert trolleys. Likewise, the menu lists the kind of fare found in
five-star hotels of a bygone era, with warm buttered rolls presented alongside lobster cocktail & whole globe artichokes. Generous portions are most noticeable at main course, perhaps a
whopping piece of brilliantly executed beef Wellington, while puds of the crêpe Suzette & strawberry flan ilk aren’t exactly featherweight. It’s all rather hypnotising, & the clientele of
local, moneyed retirees would be lost without it.
Oslo Court has quite an unusual location; on the ground floor of a block of flats in St John’s Wood. It’s been in the Sanchez family for over thirty years now and they do things the old fashioned way – there’s no website and there’s certainly no Twitter.Things are similar inside too; if you like the 70′s you’d feel right at home here. The peach tablecloths, peach candles, cream walls and blue carpet looked like they hadn’t changed from when the restaurant opened.
