Delivering a dose of uptown cool to Barnes' villagey scene, this three-storey cinema, restaurant and members' club complex is already striking the right chord with glossily coiffured locals. During
the day, Olympic’s ground-floor café – a stripped-back space adorned with pendant factory lights and funky tile work – does a brisk trade in light lunches and cakes from the open pastry kitchen.
The flexible all-day menu says all the right things – ‘home-smoked’ salmon and mackerel, Irish Angus côte de boeuf ‘hung for 44 days’ – but execution is hit and miss: small plates such as lightly
battered squid with aïoli prove more successful than uninspiring leaf salads or an under-seasoned Longhorn cheeseburger. Still, service is eager to please, the cocktails are suitably stiff and the
wine reasonably priced. The movie house next door is a gem, too.
