Swansea’s swankiest hotel has a restaurant to match the relaxed grandeur of its downstairs bar & lounge, where oversized sofas, high ceilings & polished wood floors set a scene of gentrified glamour. Upstairs it’s all dark, polished wood & smart staff, with a magnificent arched ceiling & a nautical mural that hails from the building’s days as the offices of the Harbour Trust. Billed as ‘contemporary European cooking’, the menu spans everything from salad niçoise with fresh tuna to 10-hour pork belly with cider sauce & sage & onion mash. Local ingredients are name-checked in dishes such as fresh melon with Carmarthen ham or braised Welsh lamb shank with leek mash & minted jus. Desserts stick to familiar ground – maybe strawberry cheesecake or bread & butter pudding with crème anglaise.
