Local restaurateur Henry Watt has created two different eating experiences at Mackintosh’s Canteen. Downstairs in the Canteen proper, the vibe is informal & lively, with communal supper menus,
takeaway coffee bar & simple, hearty food. Upstairs, the long, bright brasserie, with its art-gallery feel & big panoramic windows overlooking the Chapelfields mall, is more of a foodie
affair – though still unpretentious & cosmopolitan in feel. The array of comfort food includes a proper Aberdeen Angus burger or oriental chicken satay, with more interesting specials, such as
scallops & samphire or sea bass with minted peas, capers, crayfish & beurre noisette, showing culinary ambition.
