A Palladian mansion dating back to 1720, this stunning country house hotel has got just about everything going for it. Set amid 500 acres of beautiful parkland, it boasts a top-notch equestrian
centre, spa & exquisitely decorated rooms. The food comes courtesy of Michelin-starred chef Hywel Jones, who is best known for his five-year stint as head chef of Foliage when it first won its
Michelin star, & at Lucknam Park he is clearly, once again, on top form. A starter of roast diver scallops is teamed with smoked pork belly, squash puree, maple syrup & raisins – the whole
dish perfectly cooked & expertly balanced. Similarly, the glazed veal sweetbreads in Alsace bacon with roast langoustines & spring peas is a lesson in culinary equilibrium. The display of
classical mastery continues at main, with a particular recommendation being roast turbot served with delightfully soft chervil gnocchi, white asparagus, ceps & a delicate langoustine veloute.
Finish with the hot chocolate fondant, toasted almond ice-cream & orange ganache – it won’t disappoint. Admittedly, it comes at a hefty price, but with super-efficient service & lots of
little extras thrown in, it’s not one that smacks of rip-off.
