It may be but a clone of the Parisian original, but this eccentric steak-frites emporium still feels as if it’s on the edge of the 17th arrondissement rather than the heart of London’s Square Mile.
Jolly murals of Venetian market scenes, shaded wall sconces, voile half-curtains and waitresses in traditional uniforms create a convincingly retro brasserie vibe, while the celebrated no-choice
menu plays it straight: a green salad with walnuts followed by copious quantities of steak with a secret sauce, served in two stages with the second helping kept warm and accompanied by a fresh
round of thin-cut frites. After that, choice arrives in the form of some splendid French desserts ranging from raspberry feuilleté to profiteroles. ‘Relais good!’ chirps one wag – just remember
that this dependable steak pit stop doesn’t take bookings.
The girls and Mr C were in need of a catch up and to semi celebrate Miss E turning one year older (she'd already had 2 celebrations so why not have another!?). After much deliberation we settled on the infamous Relais de Venise AKA L'Entrecôte in The City (it has been a very French week after my last post!)...If you haven't been before it is an absolute must, for the food? yes, but also for the entire concept. I've enjoyed every visit here as much as the last. Try not to come here with a vegetarian as all they do is a plate of cheese...

Le Relais de Venise had been on my “restaurant hit-list” for well over a year. Yes I do have a restaurant hit-list – a carefully constructed list of restaurants that I would like to visit. It’s on a Google Doc and everything. Well I do work in digital marketing!I was starting to think I’ve never get the opportunity to visit, until one of my suppliers asked where my colleagues and I would like to go for lunch – in the city. Easy decision. We opted for a later lunch because city people like to eat early lunches – unless it’s a Friday it seems – in which case yes they will go early – but sit for aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaages...
