The dining room at this waterside charmer allows you to sit back and admire the towers of the Thames’ most iconic bridge in elegant art deco-ish surrounds. Even better, order a plateau de fruits de
mer from the seafood bar and head out to the terrace with a bottle of something chilled from the stonking 90-page wine list. The food is ‘divine’ classical French stuff, crafted with a light hand
and served with a flourish by smart-suited staff – perhaps a salad of Dorset crab with radishes, apple jelly and vanilla dressing followed by saddle of rabbit stuffed with wild garlic alongside a
pithivier of the braised legs. Alternatively, head to the boisterous Bar & Grill next door, where live piano music, cocktails and plates of affordable brasserie food offer a less aristocratic
slant on ‘a room with a view’.
A brilliant list of Champagnes, full of energy and imagination. What marks Le Pont de la Tour out from its competitiors is its willingness to look beyond the big names. The likes of Roederer, Billecart-Salmon, Tattinger and Pol Roger are all there, but there’s also an atypically large number of grower Champagnes, which suggests that sommelier Nicolas Clerc MS has really gone the extra mile.

Literally translated as Tower Bridge, the name of this fantastic French restaurant gives its location away. Situated right next to its namesake, with outside tables almost up to the river's edge and in a prime location for people watching, this is a stunning venue worth booking for the views and setting alone. The food is another reason to visit however. Being French, you can expect a certain standard, (is there a bad French restaurant?) and it certainly does not disappoint. The starters include steak tartare, Hors d’oeuvre maison (a trio of mini fish dishes including smoked salmon blini, lobster salad, and...

Pinot Noir tasting and Tom Cook’s ravishing Ravioli at Le Pont De La TourI’m something of an old hand when it comes to wine tastings, spending many a tipsy evening with hubby dearest at the charming and dangerously local Le Pont Wine Shop. Their tastings are just the right balance of informative without being formal.I also love how each tasting varies dramatically depending on the producer/distributor leading the evening, which keeps the programme fresh and intriguing. Though I should note I shan’t be attending another Austrian night. As much as I love my Gruner V, I simply cannot drink wine whilst...

Hello folks! What a fabulously summery week we are having, there was sun and now there is cloud – just the type of summer we Brits are accustomed to. I just hope the usual rain finale can hold off. It’s been an interesting start to May, what with an indulgent and celebratory trip to New York (goss on that coming soon) which left me feeling ten years younger in many ways, but also around the fast-approaching third decade, as far as putting life into perspective is concerned. In between the marathon tasting menus and liquid merriment, I figured out a little of what turning 30 means to me...
