Square Meal Review of L'Etranger ?

L’Etranger regularly collects awards for its superlative wine list, but co-founder Jerome Tauvron’s food doesn’t always get the praise it deserves. He’s a kitchen wizard, melding classic French techniques with inspired use of Asian flavours to create seductive dishes. His caramelised black cod "pulls me back every time" says one regular, but don’t miss the superb Wagyu beef with beetroot and liquorice gratin, smoked langoustine with nori prawn tempura and onion salsa, or veal chop with braised chicory and celeriac purée – not forgetting a roll call of sushi, sashimi and maki rolls. A lively mood prevails, with a sophisticated, international crowd sitting pretty amid the metal mesh curtains and furniture from French designer La Fibule. The aforementioned wine list makes you long to be a millionaire, but top-notch tipples by the glass and wine-tasting dinners will develop the palate, too.

A classical Champagne list, made up mostly of grandes marques. L’Etranger arranges its Champagnes by label, with a staggering selection of styles and formats from a range of great names – including Ruinart, Dom Pérignon (14 vintages), Krug, and Salon. A (wealthy) fizz-lover’s paradise.
