SquareMeal Review of Hollywood Arms

Bronze Award

Always busy, but off the beaten track in residential SW10, this 150-year-old hostelry has made the leap from conventional boozer to trendy glammed-up gastropub. The stripped-back, pale-green interiors, fancy mirrors and oak tables on the ground floor now keep step with other refined eateries on the street, while retaining a genuine pubby feel. Ensconce yourself with a pint of well-kept Young’s ale or a calorie-counted ‘skinny’ cocktail, otherwise get stuck into a menu of much-improved pub grub that’s caught the all-British bug: black pudding Scotch eggs with Colman’s mustard, braised short-rib of beef suet pudding with kale, ale-battered haddock, and sticky toffee pudding with London Stout ice cream are all catnip to fashionable Fulhamites. Concertina doors open out onto the quiet street, so expect crowds in fine weather.

Horrible

I have never experienced worse service in my entire life. We were nothing but polite and two of the waitresses made us feel like scum for no reason. Do yourself a favor and do not spend your afternoon at this venue.

Decent gastro pub that is a delight to sit in
THe Hollywood Arms looks like it has had a recent refurb and is a delightful venue in which to sit. The colour scheme is relaxing and inviting, yet bright and breezy too which means the hours just slip by. The selection of beer is pretty good according to my partner, whilst the wine list is conventional with nothing spectacular to shout about. The food is very decent fare too with the Elm Farm ribeye steak being well cooked and with good flavour. The tripe-cooked chips were a little underwhelming but not so much as to detract from a nice eating experience. The service leaves a little to be desired as it's a bit haphazard and lacking in attention. Overall I like the Hollywood Arms and will revisit

I had my 32nd birthday party here. Bar Manager was a delight to deal with, I was given complimentary shots to have with my guests (which I also insisted that the Bar Manager joined us). Food was yummy, loved people watching and it has such a nice air about it. I have recommened this to countless others, and they come away happy as larry!

Drinking at the Hollywood Arms followed by dinner at Brinkleys is a classic West Chelsea night out, and you could be forgiven for confusing which one you're in as the fronts are now almost identical. The Hollywood Arms was a likeable pub before the re-furb but has now been further gentrified in a comfortable, but ubiquitous, “modern elegance” style (think duck-egg velour chairs, oversized station clocks and elephant breath Farrah & Ball paints). Although you are in a pub you can unashamedly indulge in a cocktail in a fancy glass, wear spiky heels with leather trousers (girls)/raspberry skinny jeans with V-neck mustard jumper over a buttoned up denim shirt (guys), and expect friendly (if slightly slow) table service. Traces of a more traditional pub remain: there's also a grey-haired man here with his Yorkshire Terrier. The shortish wine list includes the usual Chardonnays etc but also more interesting wines like White Rioja and Albarino. Sadly they had some sort of extractor fan problem last night which seemed to be backfiring and filling the room with rank mist so we legged it pre-food, but on the basis of previous meals here I'd say the menu is slightly more ambitious than the usual gastro-fare, and the prices reflect that; I don't think the cooking quite matches up to the ambitions but it's perfectly reasonable.
