With its arty deco interiors, some of the funkiest floor tiles in Christendom and a happy hum from a gregarious/‘bloody noisy’ crowd of locals, the High Road Brasserie can sort you out whatever the
time of day. Occupying a row of townhouses on the High Road, with tables outside for that brasserie vibe, this high-street grandee opens its user-friendly account with leisurely breakfasts (‘don’t
come if you’re in a rush’, warns one reader). Kick-start proceedings with kippers, Nutella crêpes or eggs Benedict, hold off until brunch or dive straight into the all-day menu for steak-frites,
pumpkin and sage risotto or cod with coco beans and bacon. Otherwise, family roasts do the business on Sundays. Drinks also cater for all tastes, whether you’re into, real ales, world beers,
international wines or Champagne cocktails.
