Billed as a ‘posh café’, bar/bistro and neighbourhood hub, Henry Root is a local eatery and watering hole with plenty to offer. The excellent 200-bin wine list draws heavily on organic and
biodynamic producers, while an eclectic, front-room vibe and approachable brasserie menu add to the venue’s all-round appeal. Perch at the bar with some charcuterie or settle in the dining room for
the likes of avocado, lime and coriander on toast followed by seared salmon with lentils, spinach, crème fraîche and chanterelles or lamb chops with romanesco, cauliflower purée and anchovy butter.
Also be sure to leave room for dessert – perhaps white chocolate cheesecake with blackberries. One-course lunches (with a glass of wine) are a snip for around £11, and the place is dreamy when the
concertina doors are opened onto Park Walk.

When we arrived in Park Walk, just off Fulham High Street, the Italian place was two thirds empty and the clientele looked positively geriatric, while Henry Root just next to it drew us in with warm lighting and welcoming atmosphere. There we go, plans changed...
