Hilarious staff photos stretching back to the 1960s are a reminder that this quaint little bistro has been doing its thing here for almost 50 years – dishing up much-loved international favourites
to punters who sit elbow-to-elbow at tightly packed tables and squeeze onto narrow wooden pews. Kick off with grilled goats’ cheese on a crouton with caramelised red onion, before tackling fish
pie, Moroccan vegetable tagine, char-grilled calf’s liver or duck confit with red cabbage. Grumbles is also valued for its fair prices: expect change from a £20 note for two courses, or trim the
budget even further by plumping for the set lunch/early-evening menu. Traditional Sunday lunches (till 4pm) are a hit with the locals, while the wine list spends most of its time in the classic
French regions: on Monday nights you can also BYO (no corkage).
