Hugely popular and regularly touted as one of the best daytime eateries of its kind in Edinburgh, this café appended to the Fruitmarket Gallery (a free art space with a bookshop attached) is just a
stroll from both the Royal Mile and Princes Street. The place is invariably full, so grab a spare table if you see one because the eclectic and ever-changing roster of specials is worth waiting
for. So, too, are homespun regular dishes such as the breakfast burrito, Louisiana hotchpotch chicken roll, huge gaucho pulled pork and quinoa salad or coriander, chickpea and courgette falafel.
The cake counter is loaded with sweet temptations (try the Belgian chocolate Malteser square), although ‘hideously weak’ coffee is a serious drawback.
