At the foot of a 17th-century windmill, fortified during the Napoleonic Wars, Fishers is a docklands seafood bistro par excellence, with maritime decor to match. It also knows how to give the
punters what they want. The ‘features menu’ includes favourites ranging from fish soup, oysters and fishcakes to a chilled seafood platter including everything from smoked salmon and trout to
oysters, prawns and crab claws. It’s informal, but the cooking can get quite ambitious – witness Oban razor and surf clams with chorizo, peas and sherry vinegar or Shetland cod with braised oxtail,
pearl barley broth and gremolata. Carnivores might be offered Borders lamb’s liver with mash, sage and caramelised onions, while veggies have their own menu. Desserts are pretty basic (chocolate
brownies etc), and the wine list includes some very respectable whites.
