Square Meal Review of Elliot's Café ?

SquareMeal Review

‘A great place to hang out’, this buzzy New York-style eatery from the duo behind the Pavilion Café at Victoria Park is aimed squarely at Borough Market’s foodie throngs. A massive communal table holds centre stage in the dining room, which features scruffy yellow brick walls and great views of the bustle outside. On offer is a tidy selection of regularly changing, provenance-driven dishes, although specials can run out quickly and latecomers may be left with thin pickings. Snacks of pig’s head cromesquis with home-baked bread might give way to devilled ox tongue, crab on toast and bigger plates of monkfish with chickpeas and leeks or Middle White pork with cabbage, pear and chervil salad. ‘Afters’ are mostly cheeses, cakes, ice creams and sorbets, while the drinks list runs from artisan beers to an oddball selection of wines.

The Celeriac :: Elliot’s, Borough Market

Elliot’s Cafe is not a cafe in any usual sense of the word. It is Borough Market’s answer to a cafe, a rather swish version which serves only the finest of British produce and offers a menu of small plates such as steak tartare and octopus as well as larger plates like roast chicken with aioli. And then there’s the cheeseburger – which Daniel Young thinks is one of London’s greatest...

  1. New year, new chance to try out the cooking at Elliot’s Cafe. For those looking for a casual dining experience, but not willing to concede on quality of cooking and ingredients Elliot’s Cafe is the place to go. We tend to go to Elliot’s Cafe during weekends, usually on Sunday’s when the restaurant offers a fixed Sunday lunch menu of some of their best dishes (£25 pp). This time was no different...

Samphire and Salsify :: Elliot’s Cafe

There was a bar with stool seats by the entrance and then a small dining area out the back. Exposed brick walls made for a shabby yet stylish appearance and the place had a seriously buzzy atmosphere. It’s all very ‘organic wines’ this and ‘homemade lemonade’ that – and they don’t sell Coke, it’s that kind of place...

Vi Vian :: Dirty Burger, Highgate Road

Dirty Burger, Highgate Road – “are you sure?” Jeremy asked in his somewhat dubious tone, after I told him the name of our next burger quest. I casually mentioned that we were going for burger lunch, knowing that he would not reject to the idea. So, camera equipped and submissively tagged along, halfway through Camden Town heading towards North London, I said, “it’s called Dirty Burger, this place and it is just round the corner”...

Vi Vian :: Elliot’s Cafe, Borough Market

Elliot’s Cafe, Borough Market – I simply cannot believe despite the numerous times I have walked past Elliot’s Cafe while on my round trips of Borough Market, without noticing this cafe. It was easily overlooked. One – standing outside looking into Elliot’s, occupied with people on the bar and the high chairs and tables and the presence of the coffee machine (made quite a statement to passerbys) I assumed that it was merely a coffee and cake place. All around Borough Market, coffee cafes are abundant...

    Burgerac :: Elliot

£12.50 with fried potato. I took a day off work a few weeks ago to do some pre-wedding chores. And meet a friend at Elliot's for a burger...I've heard good things about the burger at Elliot's since it opened last year. As it's based on the edge of Borough Market and only serves burgers on weekday lunchtimes, it's not the most convenient place for me to check out - but taking a day off to find the perfect shoes to get married in provided a sneaky opportunity for me and a buddy to pop in for lunch...

  1. We’ve been to Elliot’s cafe on several occasions and never has it disappointed. It was time again to see how they faired after not having visited them for a few months. As always it turned out to be excellent!...

  1. The cooking at Elliot’s cafe can generally be described as comfort British cooking and the cooking at Elliot’s is goo-ood! We love hanging around the market during the weekend and hitting Elliot’s up for some of that good ole cooking. The produce is freshly sourced from the vendors at the market and the chefs are not afraid of experimenting with less common flavour combinations...

Burger Addict - Worldwide Burger Reviews :: Elliot

For some time now the weekday lunchtime only Elliot's cheeseburger has been universally regarded as one of the best London has to offer - for some reason, mostly laziness, I have not reviewed it until now, after my third burger from them...

Munch My Way :: Elliot’s Cafe, Borough Market

    Home
Elliot’s Cafe is situated in one of the most popular fresh produce market in London, Borough Market.

I’ve heard of them for a while now and never had the chance to go.. They were voted one of the best burgers in town by young&foodish and burger affair…

  1. We’d read that Elliot’s Cafe has opened a summer pop-up stove outside their permanent establishment where they serve their much loved Cheese burger and summer drinks during the summer. Through the blogging grapevine we’d also learned that BOBs Lobster had descended upon Borough market for the summer and the news was that the food was brilliant. So we thought, what better opportunity to kill two birds with one stone…off we went on the foodie prowl to Borough Market on a hot summer evening...
