Long lunches in the City may be becoming a thing of the past, but daytime dining is the done thing at Devonshire Terrace, a stone’s throw from Liverpool Street station. The smart interior is fine,
but a table on the eponymous terrace (protected by a sky-high glass roof) is perfect for watching City life go by. As you’d expect from a Corney & Barrow joint, the menu won’t set pulses
racing, but it does deliver ‘reliable’ and ‘perfectly cooked’ fare, whether it’s a starter of green-tea-smoked duck breast with pickled fennel and roasted walnuts or a hefty slab of 28-day aged
Devon Rose beef with chips and a choice of sauces. The ‘darn good value’ menu is cut back after dark, as Devonshire Terrace morphs into a drinking den, with a bulging wine list to boot.
