Part wine ‘dég-ustation’ room, part ‘o-steria’(hence the name), Degò opened quietly in 2010 & has remained resolutely under the radar ever since. A pity, because those who do venture into this
sleek black & red basement room are enthusiastic about the full-flavoured cooking & impressive wine list. ‘Imaginatively created antipasti’, comforting aubergine parmigiana & beef
tortellini served al dente in a sage & butter sauce are elevated from their trattoria origins, while secondi such as parcel-steamed sea bass with tomatoes, capers & beans are equally well
judged. Upstairs is home to the dégustation bar, where sample-sized glasses from the regional Italian wine list are offered alongside cheeses & cured meats. Staff are professional, efficient
& knowledgeable, while the Oxford Circus location & good-value lunch menu (£12.50) make it a handy catch-up spot.
