Beef is at the heart of this independent Argentinian steakhouse, located in the middle of Bermondsey’s former tannery and leather district – but other dishes shouldn’t be overlooked. Soft, gooey grilled provolone cheese in a fiery chimichurri sauce is a triumphant starter, as are robustly flavoured empanadas made with soft crumbly pastry and varying meaty fillings. The succulent and “generously proportioned” steaks gain a smoky tang from being flash-seared on the parrillada, adding to the rich earthiness of the Argentinian beef. Chunky chips adorned with garlic and parsley make an addictive side, while gooey chocolate brownie with dulce de leche is as decadent an ending as you’d expect. Constancia is simply attired with banquettes, wooden flooring, and walls that are variously bare brick or a meaty red colour. Service is friendly and reassuringly authentic. Argentinian wine, also sold at the firm’s Druid Street shop, is a highlight, with plentiful Malbecs to pair with your beef.
