Housed in a cosy candlelit basement, this venue from the Soho House Group (next door to Pizza East) is a one-trick pony celebrating the delights of roast chicken. Inside it's lined with mirrored
wooden cabinets, and the vintage look is enhanced by diner-style tables, red chairs and a long wooden counter. Chalked up on the wall, the basic menu offers free-range Norfolk chickens served by
the quarter, half or whole. Marinated, steamed, then finished on the rotisserie grill, the meat is deliciously juicy with perfectly crisp skin. Generously portioned sides are delivered in
blue-rimmed enamel dishes, and you can get your chilli kicks from the house ‘hot' sauce. Finally, sweet treats such as deep-filled apple pie draw proceedings to a satisfied conclusion. In short,
this is highly effective, hip comfort food for the iPad generation. Takeaways, too.

It’s in the same building as Dirty Burger and Pizza East (also owned by SHG) but we found the entrance to Chicken Shop quite hard to find. An open door leading to a staircase with no signage meant we walked past it before finally realising what it was...

Second visit at 79 Highgate Road in Kentish Town: this time was at Chicken Shop. My first visit was at Dirty Burger. I went there for a Sunday Brunch with some friends , we ordered a whole and a half chicken, two corns on the cob (each dish got 3 corns inside), three crinkle cut fries and one coleslaw. It was totally enough for 4 people, we didn't finish all but we were happy to learn that you can ask for a 'Doggy bag' if you want to keep the rest of your chicken...
