Expansive Asadal is widely regarded as the biggest and best of London’s Korean crop – though its low-key entrance next to Holborn station doesn’t really advertise that fact. Below, you’ll find a
large, softly lit basement dining room packed with knowledgeable expats, regulars and a few novices keen to try authentic Korean cooking for the first time. To get the best from the extensive menu,
ask the quietly efficient staff for several dishes to share: perhaps high-octane kimchi soup and classic pa jeon (savoury pancakes) generously stuffed with seafood, followed by bibimbap (layers of
steak, vegetables and rice sizzling away in a hot stone pot) or deftly marinated belly pork theatrically cooked BBQ-style on the hotplate at your table. Quality doesn’t come cheap here, but it’s
worth checking out the varied set menus and good-value lunch-box combos.
