Square Meal Review of Aqua Shard ?

Sparkling, panoramic views of the capital are guaranteed to thrill at this sky-high proposition from the Hong Kong-based Aqua group – a suave venue custom-built for local business types and gastro-tourists, with its shades of grey and purple, flattering lights and Liberty-print banquettes. The kitchen also looks to Blighty for inspiration and creates some truly ‘sublime’ dishes with contemporary accents. Poached veal tongue comes with wild asparagus, smoked beef shin and lentil dressing, lobster is pointed up with fragrant lemon balm, and Rhug Estate lamb is served with aubergine, punchy goats’ cheese, red pepper and young garlic. To finish, the kitchen also nails it with patriotic desserts such as apricot rice pudding with spiced pineapple. Service generally manages an expert blend of ‘professionalism and charisma’, although junior staff can seem undertrained. And don’t miss a trip to the loo, which comes with its own sensational vistas

    Her Favourite Food :: Aqua Shard

    Despite being a restaurant located on the 31st floor of the tallest building in Europe, Aqua doesn't get full marks on swank. Sadly, aside from the views of the London Skyline, Aqua itself looks more like a hotel lobby littered with lounge chairs shaded in greys and purples than a swanky restaurant.

    An unremarkable lift will drop diners off on the 32nd floor of the Shard, from which a fancy stairway overlooking the restaurant leads down into the atrium of Aqua. There is a large bar at the base of this atrium which occupies much of the floor whilst the smaller restaurant tables can be found on the west side...

    Food and other matters of interest :: Aqua Shard

    Stairs lead down from the entrance on Level 32 to the Aqua bar and restaurant below. The huge bar at the base of the atrium occupies much of the floor, with the restaurant tables to one side, facing west across the Thames to give panoramic views from the London Eye across to St. Paul’s and the City. The view alone makes a visit worthwhile, of course- you could spend hours looking out of the windows, watching little trains snaking their way towards London Bridge station, and boats cruising up and down the Thames. However, having been impressed with the quality of food at Hutong, the question was whether Aqua would match (or even exceed) the culinary excellence to be found a couple of floors above. The answer proved to be very much in the affirmative...

    SamTheFoodFan :: Aqua Shard

    It was The Better Half's (TBH) birthday on Sunday and I wanted to take him somewhere special. What could be more special than 31 floors up, with a view spanning 360 degrees across the London skyline? Aqua Shard is one of three restaurants located in the tallest building in Europe, serving modern British food.

    Zooming up to the 32nd floor, the lift opens up into quite a plain lobby area but once we descended the staircase to the 31st floor we found ourselves in a very sleek and sexy restaurant. We were intentionally early so that we could have a drink in the bar to appreciate the stunning views. A special occasion calls for bubbles, so we ordered a bottle of Veuve Clicquot (£65.00). Usually drinks are marked up so much in a restaurant and I thought that although marked up, it was still pretty reasonable. We were taken through to the dining room and seated at a window seat overlooking Tower Bridge. It was absolutely breathtaking!...

    Tiki Chris :: Breakfast at Aqua Shard

    Yes of course, the view is the main draw at Aqua Shard, but don’t let that get in the way of enjoying the food and stylish setting. I recently had breakfast there and left feeling nearly as pleased with my full English as I was with this upscale restaurant’s full-on vistas. For a (high) rise ‘n shine that towers over the competition, the newly introduced breakfast menu at Aqua Shard is tops.

    Usually – and even if I’ve thoroughly enjoyed a dining experience – I’m keen to get going after a meal … to carry on to the next venue, walk off some excess calories, head home and change into my jammies, whatever … just move! After my satisfying brekkie at Aqua Shard on Saturday though, I wanted to linger – to have another cup of coffee and simply ‘take it all in’ for a little while longer. To be honest, I felt like that the minute I stepped into Aqua Shard...

    S.W. Foodie :: Aqua Shard

    The views from 31 floors up are second to none. We even popped across the river to Sushisamba for a cocktail and the views there are no where near as good as The Shards. Excuse some pics my phone was all I had...

    At the bar we were lucky to bag a small table right up by the glass and slurped on thirst quenching cocktails taking in London's beautiful starry skyline. If this doesn't make you appreciate our beauty of a city then I don't know what will...

    little swallow : china doll :: Aqua Shard, London Bridge

    Aqua Shard was beautifully decked out in exactly the kind of thirty-something-storey way you'd expect, with the restaurant and seating oriented towards the views out the window. Fabulous in theory, astronomically hot and squinty when faced with a glorious sunset.

    Our cocktails were killer and the perfect start to our meal...

  1. As you would expect, the views of London from the 32nd floor of the Shard are impressive. The cocktail lounge at Aqua Shard is a perfect location to impress someone and the interior of the the whole place is tasteful and sleek. After our disappointing experience at Oblix we were unsure what to expect from Aqua Shard, but we need not have worried. The food tasted great and executed at a very high level, the service showed only a few minor glitches (in the 2nd week of opening) and the whole experience was memorable...

  1. Sometimes it’s nice to go and have a proper grown-up meal. After two nights on the trot of satisfying our ‘dude food’ cravings, we sat down for something a little more refined.

    We didn’t give Aqua Shard much of a chance, they had only opened the day before. But we knew a group like this would have things sorted out from day one and it was an invitation too good to miss. We loved the Spanish Aqua Nueva off Regents Street and the Shard branch offers suitably appropriate British fare, but of course with that Aqua twist. The menu has been devised by owner David Yeo and executive chef Anthony Garlando (protégé of master chef Pierre Gagnaire) and is inspired by the British Isles, but with a French influence...

    Samphire and Salsify :: Aqua Shard

    Aqua own two restaurants inside the Shard; Hutong a Northern Chinese inspired restaurant on the 33rd floor and Aqua Shard which serves contemporary British food on the 31st. I was super excited to be invited to a preview night at the latter, along with my gentleman companion...
