As the festival season approaches, we put music to one side and round-up the best festivals to get your foodie fix.
17-21 July
It’s the first year for this forest-based festival which aims to recapture the mood of an old-fashioned summer holiday, with seaside trips and excursions to Exmoor available. The gypsy tea party
blends sandwiches, cakes, teas and some stronger beverages with a fashion show from designer Pearl Lowe. Most excitingly for foodies, a series of long table feats will be held by The Ethicurian, Fifteen Cornwall, Nathan Outlaw and Pitt Cue
Co.
24-27 July
An established literary festival that gets more music by the year, this time around Port Eliot has really embraced its food offering, too. The Big Kitchen will feature demonstrations by Polpo’s Russell Norman, Moro’s Sam and Sam
Clarke, Skye Gyngell of soon to open Spring, and Wahaca’s Thomasina Miers.
31 July - 3 August
Family-oriented sister festival to the Isle of Wight’s Bestival, the impressive foodie line-up here includes top food stalls Breddos
Tacos, Crayfish Bob and Smokestak. There are also talks and chef demos
from personalities including Martin Morales, founder of Ceviche. Elsewhere expect an even mix of music, comedy and
family fun.
1-3 August
This music festival has one of the most impressive food and drink offerings of them all. And not just because of Tim Peaks Diner, run by The
Charlatans frontman Tim Burgess and featuring his very own Totes Amazeballs cereal. You’ll also find an impressive line-up of international street food stalls, 10 individually themed bars and a
standalone beer festival.
7-10 August
Whether its music or food, Wilderness knows how to bring in the big names. While London Grammar are headlining the former, the latter sees feasts hosted by Angela Hartnett, Russell Norman and Simon
Rogan. What’s more, there’ll be a souk tent from Moro, fish and chips from J Sheekey, a dining tent from St John and
an on-site cookery school.
29-31 August
Hosted by Jamie Oliver and Blur bassist turned cheesemaker Alex James, The Big Feastival is a festival with food at its heart. Family friendly and for the most part kid-oriented, the food line-up
should appeal to everyone, with street food from Big Apple Hot Dogs, The
Bowler and Mother Clucker among many others. An impressive line-up of chef demos includes Ashley Palmer-Watts, Gennaro Contaldo and
Gizzi Erskine as well as Mr. Oliver himself.
