SM Exclusive: Zelman to raffle its Meats in Soho

When Goodman’s fish and seafood restaurant Rex & Mariano opened almost a year ago in Soho’s St Anne’s Court, the iPad-at-table ordering system got a lot of people talking – not to mention its rock-bottom prices for great quality produce. Sadly the idea didn’t take hold, and today construction begins on its beef-focussed replacement, Zelman Meats.

The group behind Goodman, Beast and Burger & Lobster have named the new project after its founder Mikhail ‘Misha’ Zelman, where daily changing cuts of USDA Black Angus will be available. The cuts will be announced every day via its social media channels, with the menu written up on blackboards. The focus will be on winning your dinner, rather than paying for it: yep, they’re going to be doing meat raffles…

To enter the Meat Raffle, diners will be invited to submit their details to the website (which is due to go live later today) for a chance to win 1kg of meat, cooked to whatever specification the winner chooses at the restaurant. Zelman Meats will choose three winners a week who will have a month to redeem – all you have to pay for is sides and drinks.

The rest of the menu and drinks are yet to be confirmed, but expect starters and sides dishes which focus on seasonal vegetables. Also expect most people not to notice this, because they’ll be devouring piles of meat.

Zelman Meats will begin a soft launch in 2-3 weeks time. Keep up to through Square Meal or via the restaurant’s social media and imminently launching website:
